Sunshine Coast Hinterland Scenic Culinary Experience: Discover Montville and Maleny

Are you travelling on your own? Single bookings are allowed; however, there is a minimum of three adults required for the tour to operate.

What to Expect

Indulge in a Hinterland Scenic Food & Wine tour that features a local cheese tasting in Maleny, a fabulous 2-course gourmet lunch, wine tasting, and breathtaking scenic lookouts. To add a touch of luxury, the tour culminates in a platter of handmade Belgian chocolates.

This guided tour is a full-day excursion that showcases the breathtaking scenery of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland along with some of the finest local produce the region has to offer. Starting with a pick-up from your accommodation, the tour takes you towards the lush subtropical hinterland. The first stop of the day is a scenic lookout that offers stunning views of the National Heritage-listed Glass House Mountains.

Next, you’ll visit the dairy town of Maleny, where you can indulge in a range of local and international cheeses at Maleny Food Co. From there, you’ll head to The Barrel, an iconic destination shaped like a giant wine barrel on the grounds of Clouds Vineyard, where you can enjoy a wine-tasting flight. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a delicious two-course lakeside lunch.

The tour then heads to the quaint hinterland village of Montville, with a stop at a scenic lookout along the way. You’ll have free time to browse the shops and boutiques, pick up locally handcrafted items, and take in the fresh mountain air. While in Montville, you’ll also visit Chocolate Country, where you can savour a luxury handmade sampler box of chocolates (one per couple). Finally, the tour makes its way back down the range via another stunning scenic lookout before returning you to your accommodation.

Pickup times are Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Your first stop on the tour is Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve in Maleny, located on the aptly named Mountain View Road. From here, you’ll be able to enjoy stunning views towards the coast and take in the breathtaking National Heritage-listed Glass House Mountains.

Our next stop is the charming town of Maleny, located 436 meters above sea level on the southern edge of the Blackall Range. This picture-perfect dairy country town is known for attracting painters, craftspeople, and potters. While in Maleny, you’ll have the opportunity to indulge in a selection

Indulge in a true cheese connoisseur’s experience as you sample the finest artisanal cheeses from Australia and around the world. Your cheese tasting board will feature a curated selection of cheeses paired with a variety of complementary condiments such as quince jam, baby pickles, figs, muscatels on the vine, dried fruits, and crusty sourdough bread. Our next stop is Clouds Vineyard cellar door where you can savour the flavours of local award-winning wines during a flight of wine experience. Immerse yourself in the aroma and taste of the wines, while our knowledgeable guide teaches you about the different grape varieties grown in our region.

One of the two scenic lookouts we will visit is Gerrard’s Lookout, situated on a hilltop that provides stunning views of the coastline including Coolum, Maroochydore, Caloundra, and Bribie Island.

Next, you will enjoy a gourmet lunch at Secrets on the Lake, a popular foodie destination set in the rainforest on the side of Lake Baroon near Montville, offering panoramic views of the lake where you will savour a delicious 2-course meal included in the tour.

When we arrive at the Hinterland Village of Montville, we will first stop for some wine and chocolate tasting. After that, you will have some free time to explore the delightful shops and boutiques and enjoy the picture-postcard village and its fresh mountain air.

It’s late afternoon, and you’ve had the chance to purchase a few bottles of the exceptional local wine to take home as a memento. As we make our way down from the stunning hinterland, you’ll have some time to relax and enjoy the scenery before returning to your accommodation for a well-deserved rest before dinner.

Mapleton Falls Lookout

The Mapleton Falls lookout is often considered a highlight of the day for visitors, as it is a hidden treasure located in the Hinterland region. This scenic lookout provides breathtaking views of the Obi Obi Valley and the lush rainforest canopy below.

It’s late afternoon, and you’ve purchased a couple of bottles of local wine to bring back home. Now, it’s time to descend back down to sea level, where you can arrive at your accommodation with enough time to rest before dinner.

John was our tour driver and drove a total of 295.78 km for an excursion. We went from school to Yandina to Caboolture then back to Nambour. He didn't complain once or get annoyed or anything even with all the choir in the back from all of us singing to a speaker and music (it was funny). So thank you John if you see this :) and thank you to the boys at the back for the entertainment for the 4 hours of driving

Fantastic day tour we were able tonight enjoy time to look around in places & not feel rushed it was a very well planned trip we have been on lots of other tours but this one is by far our best & Rob our driver made it even better he was so friendly & very knowledgeable about the area. My sister & I booked a tour to Eumundi Markets with Coast to Hinterland Tours. From start to end the service was awesome!! Mark always responded to my questions and emails so quickly and went out of his way to try and accommodate my requests. However, the best part of the day was our driver, Jan!!! Seriously, what a legend……. She was kind, funny and full of energy!!! She gave us lots of tips on the markets and information on the areas we travelled through on the way there and back. This company was the most cooperative with my pickup, after I got turned down by 4 others. Natasha was our driver for the hinterland experience in Malaney and Montville, and even with the rain she was able to give all of us a wonderful day. She also drove a bus load to Eumundi markets and all of her 'best' picks for food & coffee were spot on! Highly recommend this company!

This was one of the best tours we have done. We had 5 adults on this tour. Peter was so informative and interesting and took us to see some wonderful places that we would not have seen had we done it on our own. All the food we had over the day that was part of the tour was also delicious starting with the lovely chocolate bar we got, then a delicious cheese board. Lunch at Secrets on the Lake was lovely and the restaurant and the views were just stunning.. then it was off to try some wine tasting . And more sight seeing. A wonderful day .Thank you so much Peter you are an asset to the company. To top the wonderful service off, we left our prescription glasses in the van and we rang the next morning. And another lovely driver dropped them off to our accommodation after his tour that day ...Top Service, Top company ,Top Drivers..Thankyou so much.

Had an absolutely lovely day trip with this company. Dave was amazing. Really friendly, helpful and a safe, confident driver. Had a great time in Maleny, the cheese platter was delicious as were the chocs! I would have to say the highlight was lunch at Secrets on the Lake! Beautiful food, wine and scenery! Dave’s commentary along the way was really interesting and informative. Perhaps ditch the winery, (wines nothing special) and maybe spend a bit more time In Montville. Thanks for a great day. I had such a comfortable and amazing experience with Jan, who was the driver. She was so informative and genuine! I recommend the Eumundi Markets Bus Transfer, if you aren’t keen on driving there; it’s hard to get a nice car spot… Overall was keen on susing out the 600+ stalls hahaha!

We thoroughly enjoyed the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Scenic Culinary Experience: Discover Montville and Maleny day tour. Our driver, Jan, was very knowledgeable and engaging throughout the tour. Both Montville and Maleny are quaint quirky towns and having free time to explore each was great. Lunch at Secrets on the Lake was delicious and the restaurant (including location) was extraordinary including fantastic views and items of interest. We will definitely do another day tour with Coast to Hinterland Tours when next in Noosa and surrounds.

Lovely day out with Rob (our drive) working through lookouts and wineries on the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Fantastic day out celebrating a 50th birthday, loved maleny chocolate factory visit. The wineries were lovely locations, my only small criticism is you couldn’t choose the wine you wanted to try as that was done for you. Lunch at Secrets on the lake was delicious. Rob was very accommodating getting group pics for us, and joining in on a chat and a laugh. Worth giving this tour a go for a girls day out!!

We had a fabulous day out today on the Hinterland Scenic Culinary tour with David. From the start,letting us know he was running a few minutes late due to traffic issues, David provided an interesting commentary throughout the day and ensured all of us on the tour were comfortable and happy with what was happening.
